NHS National Programme for IT

Launched in 2002, the National Programme was meant to reform the way that NHS England uses information. Important elements encountered significant difficulties such as developing and deploying the detailed care records systems. Following three reports by the National Audit Office and the House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts, and a review by the Major Projects Authority, the UK Government announced in 2011 that it would dismantle the NHS National Programme for IT.
